Press-release, Moscow-2009

The largest in the world calligraphy exhibition will be held in Moscow

Management of the Contemporary museum of calligraphy and the National Union of Calligraphers has accepted the dates for the II International exhibition of calligraphy. The largest event of this kind will for the first time be held in Moscow from October 14th to November 14th, 2009.

The exposition is going to be located on the territory of Sokolniki culture and exhibition center. It will occupy a new ultra-modern mobile pavilion, yet unprecedented in Russia (pavilion 7a). Also, the exposition will be showed in pavilion 17.
Beside that, the Contemporary museum of calligraphy exposition (pavilion 7) will be open for visitors during the whole exhibition working hours. The exhibition total floor space makes up around 5,000 sq.m.

This event is already of great interest both for mass media and cultural environment. World famous authors will represent their art pieces. The exhibition expands its geography, inasmuch as this coming exhibition will welcome calligraphers from more than 30 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, USA, Japan, China, France, Italy, Germany, Australia and Brazil. Among the guests there will be collectors, art dealers, fine art experts, critics and representatives of cultural institutions.

Moreover, the organizers have a nice present for all calligraphy connoisseurs: it will be the only chef-d'oeuvre of the contemporary sacred calligraphy registered by the World Record Book. The sacred artefact is yet kept under wraps… and it was not shown in Russia ever before.

Apart of calligraphy art pieces the show exposition will also include handwritten books and documents, applied calligraphy pieces, materials and equipment. A special attention is paid to topical sections describing the writing systems of different nations, countries and religions. More specifically, these sections will feature a collection of sacred calligraphy pieces. The exhibition will offer an extensive business program and the contest “Sacred writing in calligraphy”.

The exhibition is organized under the aegis of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO and is supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Their partnership support provide RÖDER HTS HÖCKER GmbH company, SWISS Aviacompany,  Brussels Airlines, Maxima Hotels, Turist Hotel, CONCERT.RU, KASSIR.RU, the MGIMO Alumni association, Russian State Library, National Library of Russia and Sokolniki Culture and Exhibition Centre.
