III International Exhibition of Calligraphy
(September 10 — 12, 2010, Velikiy Novgorod)
“International Exhibition of Calligraphy” is the largest project in the world dedicated to the culture of writing and script as a refined art. Since 2009 the project has been carried out under the aegis of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. The exhibition's high level is proved by UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry).
From September 16 till September 21, 2008 the first in Russia International Exhibition of Calligraphy was very successfully held in St. Petersburg and the second exhibition took place in Moscow from October 14 till November 14, 2009. The figures are eloquent of the exhibition popularity: in comparison to the previous year, the number of visitors increased twofold and amounted to 30,000 people. The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
III International Exhibition of Calligraphy will be organized in Velikiy Novgorod (September 10 — 12, 2010) at the Yaroslav's Court. The venue is not a chance thing. Velikiy Novgorod is the treasurer of the thousand-year long Russian culture and the ancient centre of Orthodox Christianity. The latter is especially important. The art of calligraphy preserves and supports culture and religious traditions of various countries. In the meantime it unites people of different confessions of multinational Russia and other countries; it demonstrates the unity of spiritual and moral principles of the human civilization. The idea is emphasized in the welcome addresses of the clerical leaders of the main religious confessions among which is the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar and Mufti Sheikh Rawil Gaynetdin, Chairman of the Mufti Council of Russia.
Guests of the III International Exhibition of Calligraphy will see the exhibits from more than 40 countries of the world. Among the exhibits are the calligraphic paintings, applied calligraphy, writing materials and utensils. Also such unique masterpieces as Golden Quran, Decalogue, Holy mantra, Tsar-Mezuzah and others will be displayed at the event. Calligraphy works from the collection “Sacral calligraphy” will form the basic part of the exhibition. The cultural and entertainment program will be a hard-driving one with master classes of the world famous artists-calligraphers, festival concerts, project “the world cuisine”, project “night of museums” (September 11), also a wakeboarding show competition and wakesurfing show performance with participation of the best proriders from Russia, Europe and Asia.
Exhibition organizer: Contemporary museum of calligraphy, National Union of Calligraphers and MVK International Exhibition Company, with the assistance of Commission for culture, tourism and archive-keeping of Novgorod region.
